“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.” – Sherry Anderson
Looking for a way to serve your community?
Molly Pofahl, East Central District Health Department's Emergency Response Coordinator, is currently compiling a list of volunteers who would be willing to assist during a public health emergency. (At this time, we are not seeking volunteers for agency events).
Where: Locations will vary depending on need as we serve four counties (Boone, Colfax, Nance, Platte).
When: On an as-needed basis. Sometimes there will be advance notice. During an emergency situation, ECDHD will make every effort to provide as much notice as possible.
Qualifications: Ability to take direction, learn quickly, and function in high-stress situations. Healthcare professionals (retired or currently practicing) are always welcome.
Time Commitment: No more than eight hrs. per shift with one meal break and two 20-minute breaks provided. Meals, snacks, and drinks are provided when you are on shift. Initial training will be required and will be a half-day commitment. Light refreshments provided.
Examples of volunteer activities:
- Handing out medications/providing vaccines in a mass clinic setting
- Directing the flow of people in a mass clinic setting
