Medical Records Clerk
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Release medical record information to persons and/or agencies according to regulations and office policy, requiring signed consents and appropriate documentation.
- Distribute medical records to appropriate folders within the EHR.
- Maintains accurate tracking systems to review documentation and ensure compliance.
- Protects medical records from breaches of confidentiality and/or unauthorized use.
- Disposes of records according to record retention policies.
- Completes assignments while meeting quality standards for accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness.
- Locate missing information and scan to the electronic medical record queue for provider sign off.
- Electronically submit progress notes to applicable referring providers.
- File correspondence, lab results, notes, etc. under proper categories in the electronic medical record.
- Handle release of information process, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and compliance with PHI and PII best practices.
- Answer incoming calls for Medical Records complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Interface with healthcare professionals both internal and external as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to alphabetize and record information into chronological order.
- Ability to analyze medical records for completeness and accuracy, paying attention to detail.
- Proactive and independent with ability to take initiative.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to work well with individuals of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- One year of medical records or office experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Previous experience working in a hospital, clinic or physician’s office preferred.
- Bi-lingual preferred.
