Dental Director

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dental Director is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and provides clinical leadership, supervision, and operational oversight for the dental clinic. This position is responsible for driving clinical productivity, ensuring high-quality patient care, fostering a positive and accountable team culture, and maximizing resource utilization. The Dental Director will guide the dental team in delivering excellent, mission-driven oral health services, emphasizing stewardship of resources and measurable outcomes.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Leadership & Strategic Oversight
• Lead the dental team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care that aligns with GNCHC’s mission and FQHC guidelines.
• Cultivate a positive, accountable culture emphasizing teamwork, transparency, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with the COO and senior leadership to align dental services with organizational goals and financial sustainability.
• Serve as a key voice in organizational planning, productivity goals, and strategic decision-making.
Clinical Supervision & Staff Management
• Provide clinical supervision, coaching, and support to dentists, hygienists, and dental staff.
• Ensure clinical protocols, infection control, and quality standards are met consistently.
• Lead regular team huddles, performance reviews, and professional development initiatives.
• Work closely with the Administrative Site Managers on scheduling, staffing plans, and resource allocation.


Productivity & Operations Management
• Establish and monitor productivity benchmarks for providers and staff.
• Implement strategies to maximize clinic efficiency, optimize schedules, and reduce downtime.
• Oversee clinical documentation and adherence to compliance standards (HRSA, FTCA, Joint Commission).

Patient Care & Community Engagement
• Deliver direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and preventive services.
• Serve as a role model for patient-centered service and cultural competence.
• Support community outreach, dental education, and public health initiatives.

People & Culture
• Supervise dental departmental staff.
• Foster a high-performing, inclusive workplace culture grounded in clear expectations.
• Develop talent pipelines and promote professional development and succession planning.
• Address performance issues constructively and support team growth.
• Compliance, Reporting, QA, Performance & Program Evaluation
• Lead the tracking of quality measures, UDS reporting, and performance metrics.
• Participate in quality improvement efforts and serve on the Quality Assurance Committee.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and grant requirements.


EDUCATION:
• Required: Graduate of an accredited dental school.
• Preferred: Experience in a leadership or supervisory role in a dental or healthcare setting (FQHC preferred).
• Licensure: Current dental license valid in one of the 50 states of the USA. (Nebraska preferred).
• Required: Current Basic Life Support Certificate


REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive management experience in healthcare, public health, or nonprofit settings.
• Experience in FQHC operations, federal and state regulatory compliance, and grant oversight.
• Demonstrated success in leading dental teams and developing organizational systems.
• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong skills in strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Experience in accreditation processes (HRSA OSV, PCMH, Joint Commission).
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and patient care simultaneously.
• High level of discretion, ethics, and professionalism.

SUPERVISION

The Dental Director directly supervises:
• Dentists/ Dental Students
• Dental Hygienists
• Dental Assistants
• Works with administrative site supervisors to manage MOS
